Regensburger Land
HOLIDAY REGION AND CULTURAL MILE
The “Landkreis Regensburg” (district) offers a Danube experience around the UNESCO world heritage city of Regensburg and fascinates by scenic variety with river valleys, cultural monuments, castle ruins and a small wine region. You will find impressive treasures, that are especially located along the “Cultural Mile” in the Danube Valley. Exemplary for that is the “Donaustauf” with its castle ruin and the Valhalla of King Ludwig. The castles “Wörth” and “Wiesent”, as well as the Nepal-Himalaja-Pavilion in Wiesent, which once decorated the Expo 2000 are additional highlights to explore. All of these cultural sites are located in the historical “Baierwein” cultivation area. In the past, vineyards extended along the Danube until Passau. Nowadays the “Baierwein” is only grown in few areas and degusted in wine taverns as “Regensburger Table Wine”. The “BaierWein Museum” in Bach/Donau is the centrepiece of the wine region.
