6 Swamp and nature adventure Federsee
Start Riedlingen
Start is on the Riedlinger Danube island, then the tour leads along the nature reserve “Flusslandschaften Donauwiesen”. It requires some fitness to reach the Bussen, the highest mountain Oberschwabens with a wonderful view and alpine panorama (when the weather is good). Afterwards it goes downhill through meadows and woods to reach the Federsee, which lies in the biggest connected swamp region of southern Germany. The NABU nature conservation center, explains the plant and animal life of the Federsee region. Right next to it in the Federsee museum, you can admire meaningful archeological findings as well as stone and bronze replicas. Close to it, historical lake dwellings, which are part of UNESCO world heritage, were found. The 1,5 km long Federsee pier has an observation tower and leads you into an amazing animal and plant world. The “Wackelwald” is a great experience for kids. When jumping up and down on the swamp, the trees begin to wobble. On the way back you will pass the Bachritter castle in Kanzach. The reconstructed wooden castle is true to the original and shows how the gentry was building in the middle ages. The tour then takes you back through the Seelen Forest.
